“Theatricality and deception are powerful agents to the uninitiated… but we are initiated, aren’t we Bruce? Members of the League of Shadows!”

– Bane (The Dark Knight Rises)

My boyfriend’s brother, Ted, works at the LEGO store in the Mall of America. He’s been playing with LEGOs his entire life, and even as an adult, he fills a great deal of his time building things out these tiny bricks.

There is an event called CONvergence that is a gathering of science-fiction, and every fantasy character you’ve ever seen. This event is held on the fourth of July. Ted is attending, and he will be showing off his LEGO skills. Last year he amazed people with his LEGO Portal Gun, made of around 2000 pieces.

Ted designed this using LEGO Digital Designer, and a lot of patience!

This year he has made a whole new creation. Nowhere near as many pieces! But still an amazing piece of art. Ted has created a LEGO Bane mask. Not only did he spend a lot of time designing and building this, but he has put in a lot of time watching The Dark Knight Rises so that he can get Bane’s voice down, and he has even gone as far as to shave his head for this costume.

Ted is a classic example of someone who is passionate about the art he creates. These tiny bricks are a medium for artistic expression, and Ted has learned to harness that. He has learned to create art!
